This page explains how to delete your Athlema account and what happens when you do. You can use it even if you cannot sign in.
1. Delete your account in the app
- Open the Athlema app and sign in.
- Go to Profile > Account settings > Delete account.
- Read what will happen, then confirm.
If you signed in more than 10 minutes ago, we ask you to confirm it is you first: with your password, with Google, or with a code we send to your email. If you signed up with Apple, we always ask you to confirm with Apple, because we use that confirmation to remove Athlema from your Apple ID.
If you signed up with Apple, please delete your account from the app on an iPhone or iPad, or ask us by email (see section 2).
2. On the web, or if you cannot use the app
There is no delete button on the website yet. Instead:
- Email privacy@athlema.com from the email address on your Athlema account.
- Use the subject line "Delete my account".
- We will send a confirmation email to the address on your account to check that the request really comes from you. Reply to it to confirm.
We will complete your request within 30 days after we verify it, and usually much sooner. We will email you when it is done.
If you can no longer use the email address on your account, tell us in your email. We will explain how we can check that the account is yours.
3. Before you delete
Some things need your attention first:
- Teams you own. Hand ownership to a teammate if you want the team to continue. Otherwise, the team will be archived.
- Doubles and team entries. If you want to leave a shared entry, withdraw from it first. If you do not, the entry stays so your partner or team can still play, and your name is replaced with "Deleted User". There is no refund for a shared entry that stays.
- Referee pay. If an organizer owes you referee pay, settle it with the organizer before you delete. Organizers pay referees outside Athlema.
- Organizations you own. If you are the only owner of an organization, you cannot delete your account until you make someone else an owner in the hub (hub.athlema.com).
- Athlema staff. If you have Athlema staff access, you cannot delete your account this way. Contact us.
- Athlema+. Your membership ends immediately when you delete your account. We do not refund unused time.
- Organizer credit. Any credit you have with organizers is lost.
- Records you want to keep. If you want a copy of your information, ask us at privacy@athlema.com before you delete your account.
4. What happens when you delete
Deletion starts right away and usually finishes within minutes. You are signed out on all your devices, and we send a confirmation email to your old address.
Your registrations and activity
- Individual entries in programs that have not started are withdrawn under the normal rules. If registration is still open, the card part of your payment is refunded to your card (a deposit only if the organizer made deposits refundable). If registration has closed, the organizer decides whether to refund you. Any part paid with organizer credit comes back as credit and is then lost. Waitlist places are removed.
- Doubles and team entries in programs that have not started stay, so your partner or team can still play. Your name becomes "Deleted User". There is no refund. Your partner or teammates are told.
- Open payment requests are cancelled.
- Open cancellation offers from organizers are paid back to your card as a refund.
- Pickup games you host that have not started are cancelled, and the players are told. Your RSVPs to other games are removed.
- Referee invitations are declined, and you are removed from confirmed referee crews for events that have not started.
- Teams you own are archived, unless you handed ownership to a teammate first. In teams you belong to, you show as "Deleted User".
What we erase
- Your name and email address.
- Your profile photo, Player Card and Player Card photos.
- Your bio and profile details: home city, gender, date of birth, height, languages, shirt size and sports.
- Your ratings.
- Your sign-in methods. If you used Apple, we revoke Athlema's access to your Apple ID. Your Apple or Google account is released from Athlema.
- Your blocks (the people you blocked and the people who blocked you).
- Staff notes about you, and your permissions.
What stays, shown as "Deleted User"
These are part of other people's records, so they stay, without your name:
- past results, rosters, brackets, standings and awards; and
- team-chat messages you sent, because they are part of a group conversation.
What we keep, and why
| What we keep | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Payments, refunds, payment requests and disputes | Tax, accounting and legal reasons | At least as long as the law requires, generally 7 years |
| Waivers you signed, including the name you typed | Possible legal claims | At least 7 years, and longer where a minor took part |
| Records that you accepted our Organizer Agreement for an organization (which organization, which version, when, and the IP address and browser information used) | Proof of the contract | At least 3 years, and as long as needed for possible legal claims |
| Audit records (for example, of payments and of the deletion itself) | Security, legal and accounting reasons | As long as needed for those purposes |
| Reports you filed (you show as "Deleted User") | Moderation and safety | The report record (who reported what, the reason, the note and the outcome) is kept while the reported person's account exists and as long as we need it to spot repeat behavior. Copies of reported content are removed 1 year after the report is resolved |
| Reports about your content | They stay open until our team reviews them | Same as above |
| Child-safety evidence | Required by law | At least 1 year, as the law requires |
These records are not made anonymous, because we may need them for the reasons above. We use them only for those reasons.
What others keep
- Organizers keep their own records, such as contact-book entries and guest lists. If an organizer invited your email address to an event, that invitation stays in the organizer's guest list. To have those deleted, ask the organizer.
- Stripe keeps its own payment records under its privacy policy: https://stripe.com/privacy (opens in a new tab).
If something goes wrong partway through, your account stays locked and we finish the deletion automatically.
5. Deletion cannot be undone
Once your account is deleted, we cannot restore it. If you want to use Athlema again, you can create a new account, but your old profile, history and credit will not come back.
6. Want to delete only some of your information?
You do not have to delete your whole account:
- Edit your profile to change or remove details, such as your bio, home city or date of birth.
- Remove photos from your profile and Player Card.
- Choose a different display name for future entries.
- Ask us to delete specific information by writing to privacy@athlema.com.
7. Information held by organizers
Organizers keep their own records of the programs you joined and of contacts they added themselves. We cannot delete an organizer's own records for you. Please ask the organizer directly. If you cannot reach the organizer, write to privacy@athlema.com and we will try to help.
8. Questions
Write to privacy@athlema.com. You can read more about how we handle your information in our Privacy Policy.
See all of Athlema’s policies on the Legal page.
